Trampoline show comes to Summer Celebration

Flippenout Extreme Trampoline Show features Olympic-level athletes in its shows performing with a unique trampoline setup. The group will perform at the Centre Mall parking lot at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 2 as well as 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3.

SIOUX CENTER—Sioux Center Summer Celebration will have people jumping thanks to several chances to see the Flippenout Extreme Trampoline Show.

Featuring an entertaining mix of action, competition, music and dad jokes, Flippenout will perform at the Centre Mall parking lot at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 2 as well as 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3.

Promising soaring heights, flips, twists and even using snowboards, Flippenout utilizes a special set of trampolines with a tall, transparent wall in between that is incorporated into the stunts.

Thomas Theobald will be one of the performers for the show. The 40-year-old family man and professional snowboarder typically can be found managing his own gymnastics gym during the weekday and then going out for Flippenout shows on the weekends.

"Our performers live all across the country as we draw from the best trampolinists, skiers, snowboarders, Ninja Warriors and all-around acrobats. Each show is different depending on who we bring in," he said.

They have been performing across the country for more than a decade and have gone as far as Qatar. With more than 100 days in a year spent doing these shows, they’ve taken their show to NFL halftimes, NASCAR races, bar mitsvahs and fairs.

The show got its start when they began experimenting with Olympic trampolines and realizing how it sucked in spectators.

And getting a chance to travel, learn about local culture and meet people has been one of Theobald's favorite aspects of this work. Another is getting to travel with his friends.

"James Johnson and I will be the performers for this show. James is a former senior elite trampolinist who competed at the same level that the USA chooses who goes to the Olympics," Theobald said, adding, "Our focus is to be entertainers first, acrobats second. The entire show is pretty much us egging each other on through bantering and pushing each other to bigger and bigger stunts."
